What should I look for in a personal trainer? |
| |
|
| |
A.Look for
a national certification from organizations such as The National
Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), The American Council on
Exercise (ACE), The International Fitness Professionals Association
(IFPA), The Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA),
or the International Fitness Association (IFA). |
|
|
B.
Look for a responsible person who sits down with you and shows
concern and interest in your goals and health history before
beginning to train you. |
|
|
C.
Look for a person who trains safely and is knowledgeable in
motivational techniques, program design, correct form, proper
exercise technique and nutrition. |
|
|
D.
Look for a person who is willing and interested in training
you at least 3 times per week for at least 3 months to insure
that you see the results you want and reach your goals, rather
than just offering you a few sessions to earn a quick buck and
send you on your way. |
|
|
E.
Look for a person who is as eager to see you reach your goals
as you are. |
|
|
F.
Make sure the trainer carries liability insurance. |
|
|
G.
The trainer should not guarantee instant results or weight loss
greater than 2 pounds per week. |
|
|
H.
Not all personal trainers will have the same techniques. While
some are definitely better than others, there are as many different
techniques that work as there are personal trainers. Just because
personal trainers differ in their styles, does not mean they
are not equally as good. Just make sure the trainer trains safely
and gets results. |
