Chicago’s Top Trainers:
Michael J. Sokol. One-on-One Fitness, Chicago (312) 642-4235: Sokol has a no-nonsense approach to training that isn’t for everyone. He says he won’t work with clients who "are not going to do what they need to do, which is change their lifestyle." But people who aren’t scared off by Sokol’s matter-of-fact manner will get results, he says. The former tax lawyer puts clients on a three-month fitness program that involves strength training and cardio at least three times a week and eating six small meals a day.

Personal trainer Michael Sokol said he knows the optimal way get in swimsuit shape ASAP. "Within a week you will start seeing results," said Sokol, whose personal training company, One-on-One Fitness, serves clients in Chicago and Scottsdale, Ariz. This is the definitive list of America's top fitness gurus. Men's Journal polled 11,000 certified personal trainers in the 20 largest cities in the country. After they tallied the votes, they contacted almost 1,000 researchers, fitness directors, gym managers, doctors and physical therapists to further narrow the list. One-on-One Fitness owner Michael J. Sokol was honored to have made the list.

One-on-One Fitness owner Michael J. Sokol was grateful to have been nominated four years in a row for the American Council on Exercise (ACE) Personal Trainer of the Year Award. This award was created in 1999 to publicly recognize the contribution fitness professionals have made to the fitness industry. ACE annually honors fitness professionals who have excelled in the areas of client development and training techniques, among other things.
